The Best Mystery Movies on Netflix Right Now
There are actually a ton of mysteries on Netflix but most of them are pretty awful. It takes a certain amount of skill to create a film that genuinely keeps you confused while wanting to learn more of the story. Today we're looking for the adrenaline spiking rides into the unknown. The best mysterious on Netflix provide you with an exciting night of intrigue if done correctly. I can't say that the majority of mysteries on Netflix are actually worth watching, but if you need some heart-racing entertainment, where you might just get to play detective, these are some of the best mystery movies on Netflix.
1922
1922 is the story of a farmer who will do anything to keep his farmland and son. There have been so many Stephen King Netflix mystery movies lately and it's great! I grew up with all the classic horror movies based on Stephen King books, so I'm excited to see that Netflix has really taken it upon themselves to create some of the best mystery movies on Netflix from his novels. Thomas Jane plays an excellent role as a gritty, hardworking, farmer willing to do anything and everything to keep his land and way of life. 1922 is one of those dark Netflix mystery movies that slowly get worse and worse as the film goes on. So if you're looking for one of the best mystery movies on Netflix, look no further than 1922.
Memento
So Memento might actually be thee best mystery movie on Netflix. Memento is about a man with an extremely short memory, trying to put together the pieces of his life in a hunt for revenge. I can't think of any other Netflix mystery that can really compare to Memento. If you haven't seen this movie yet, you need to watch it tonight. Memento is the type of movie where you can pretend to play detective and try to figure it out, but the plot will always be one step ahead of you. If the best mysteries on Netflix are supposed to keep you on the edge of your seat and struggling to keep up, then Memento is the #1 Netflix mystery.
Silent Hill
Silent Hill is the type of Netflix mystery that gets very dark very quickly. I wouldn't say that Silent Hill is the type of movie that you can actually "figure out" but it's power as a Netflix mystery lies in the fact that it just keeps going deeper and deeper (literally) into the rabbit hole. This isn't one of the mysteries on Netflix that have a slow, boring plot, where you can barely keep your eyes open. Silent Hill has increasingly horrifying scenes that keep you wondering "What the hell is going on here?". Silent Hill is a Netflix mystery that is based on a very scary video game. Don't let them fool you though, Silent Hill is no movie for kids, it's a dark and twisted tale about a mysterious evil.
Sun Choke
Ah, Sun Choke. Now if the best mysteries on Netflix are supposed to make you completely confused yet enthralled in the story, Sun Choke is the movie for you. Sun Choke is about a woman with mental issues who is under the care of a woman who forces her into a strict regimen. I really don't know what to say about Sun Choke other than that it was one of the weirdest movies I have seen this year. Sun Choke is very dark at times and makes you wonder how a director can come up with all of this craziness. Sure, it fits the mold as one of the best mystery movies on Netflix, but it also fits in the category of a dark, violent, mind-bending, psychological thriller that makes it a Netflix mystery all unto its own.
Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko is a great throwback Netflix mystery. In my opinion, this is one of Jake Gyllenhaal best roles. Donnie Darko is the story of a coming of age boy who discovers the realm of an alternate reality. Even though it's a little older, I still think Donnie Darko is one of the best mystery movies on Netflix right now. It's already a cult classic among 80's baby, so you know it has to be good. As things pick up throughout the movie, it turns down a surprisingly dark and creepy path. I was genuinely interested in Donnie Darko the whole time I was watching it because it has so much originality. Netflix mystery movies should really take a page out of the Donnie Darko book. If you're looking for the best mysteries on Netflix that will have your mind bending into an alternate reality, make sure to give Donnie Darko a try tonight.
Odd Thomas
Odd Thomas is the story of a cook, his girlfriend, and a stranger coming together to battle a mysterious evil in their small town. I don't know why no one has seen Odd Thomas. It's a gem among mysterious on Netflix. Sure, it's not the most serious Netflix mystery with all the A-list celebrities of the world, but it is a fun quality film starring Alton Yelchin and Willem Dafoe. Odd Thomas truly is "odd" but that's what makes it so fun to watch. There's nothing I hate more than the extremely slow mysterious on Netflix. Odd Thomas is very fast paced and a perfect 90-minute movie to keep you entertained.
The Wailing
The Wailing is a very creepy movie. I don't say that lightly, but it really is. The Wailing is the story of brutal murders taking place in small Korean villages linked to a mysterious outsider. There are so many parts in The Wailing that can send chills up your spine. This is one of the best mystery movies on Netflix right now because it not only keeps you guessing from one scene to the next, but the mysterious ritualistic scenes really throw you for a spin. It's a very unforgiving film that drags you through a dreadful sight of horror and mystery. As The Wailing is also a horror movie, I would say it is one of the best mysteries on Netflix in that category.
