The Best Action Movies on Netflix
I'd say there are about a thousand action movies on Netflix. All you have to do is open Netflix and there will be a million options popping up in your face. It's unfortunate that Netflix accepts so many action movies to its platform though. Most of them are just staring B (or C) level actors, way out of their prime and desperate for attention. But for those of us that can still recognize good action movies on Netflix when we see them, take a look at the movies listed below and I promise you won't be disappointed.
13 Assassins
I think 13 Assasins is my favorite action movie of all time. Seriously, good action movies on Netflix don't get any better than this. What's so great about this film is that you crave the bloody vengeance against the vilest type of evil you see in front of you. The villain of the movie is such a treacherous character you're ready to burn down his kingdom just to see him suffer. I've always been partial to Samurai movies and if you are you've come to the right place. Bloody mayhem and sword slicing limbs await you in 13 Assassins. It's always nice when you have a movie that stays true to the rich history of the Samurai and follows their code of honor. Incidentally, the warriors of this film must break that code to exact their revenge. If you don't believe me that this is one of the best action movies ever made, go ahead and google another review. I promise you, you will not see a bad review about this movie. I'm willing to bet it's one of the top action movies on Netflix for everyone's movie list. The last 45 minutes are a nonstop show of the most realistic swordsmanship I have ever seen.
Kung Fury
Oh man, I wish Kury Fury was a full-length movie because it's just great. Ok ok, I know it's just too cheap and dumb for some people. But you know what? It's hilarious too! I think some people just take themselves too seriously these days. Kung Fury is just a ridiculous ride through the mind of some crazy Swedish guy who liked to see heads exploding and guys jumping off buildings into their Lamborghinis. I mean, Netflix action movies should be fun too right? Kung Fury has entertained more than 35 million people so they can't all be wrong right? If you're in the mood for Kung Fu, fighting Nazi's, and um... dinosaurs, then you came to the right place! Also, if you are an 80's baby or have ever liked anything from the 80s, Kung Fury is a spoof movie about America in the 80's. And it's like I always say, any movie produced by real Lazer Unicorns has to be a movie worth watching.
Turbo Kid
Turbo Kid is slowly but surely making its way to the mainstream and people are really loving it. It's actually the first movie I can label as one of the retro-futuristic post apocalyptic movies on Netflix. Turbo Kid really has a Mad Max feel to it with over the top gore and 80's style music and screen shots. The story has a classic underdog against a ruthless gang mentality and they don't pull any punches. Everything just makes for a fun, campy, off the wall adventure story. My favorite parts of Turbo Kid are all the B-rated gore and cheesy one liners. It's done in a way that's still fun (and not actually cheesy) and you start to accept the pure randomness of every scene that gets thrown at you.
Hot Fuzz
I think most people have seen Hot Fuzz by now, but if not, now's the time! Nicholas Angel (Simon Pegg) is a super cop who gets relocated to a small British village because he's too much of a super cop in the city. Once relocated people start dying in increasingly mysterious ways which prompt him to open an investigation. Simon Pegg always has a way of making fun movies and this might be his best one yet. With Hot Fuzz you can't expect any Oscars to be won, but you can expect to laugh your way through the entire movie. I know we've all seen the cop genre get played out a million times but you're in for a surprise with this one. There's plenty of twists and turns and there are no boring parts of the movie. Nick Frost plays a hilarious side kick and deserves as much credit as Pegg gets for making this movie what it is. Both of them put together one of the few good action movies on Netflix.
Night Watch
Ok so you like action movies on Netflix, but do you like really weird action movies on Netflix? Night Watch may actually be the weirdest action movie I've ever seen. Everything about it is strange down to the colorful and often animated subtitles. It may also be the most original action movie on Netflix. What sets it apart is the mix of animal and dream world special effects. At times I found it extremely confusing but never once was I bored. Some people have called it a horror movie but I don't necessarily think it fits the genre. There's a fair amount of blood but its aim isn't really to scare the audience. If I had to think up one word to describe Night Watch, it would simply be "strange". For a time it was actually the highest grossing film to come out of Russia and it doesn't take long for you to see how interesting and unique the cinematography is. Oh wait, did I forget to mention there are vampires involved here? Yes, vampires! You want Netflix action movies packed with crazy scenes that I guarantee you've never seen the likes of? Then check out Night Watch
Stretch
Stretch the limo driver gets caught up in the wild action of a billionaires games. Patrick Wilson plays the main character and he just seems like a guy down on his luck and desperate for a good tip. Along comes billionaire Chris Pine and things just get screwy as soon as he jumps in the limo. There are some reviews of Stretch that put it in a bad light but pay no mind to them. What Stretch offers is an unpredictable plot and a fun little adventure ride through Hollywood. I would say that this is definitely a film for grown ups with all the profanity, drug use, and even nudity, so keep that in mind if you're looking for an action movie you might not want to watch with the kids. But everything is just fine with this movie in the terms of cinematic entertainment. There's lots of action, cool stunts, and you'll have a good old fashion fun time watching Stretch.
Stake Land
Stake Land is a story of survival in a vampire laden post apocalyptic world. Wow, this is already the second one on the list of post apocalyptic movies on Netflix. Just reading that first sentence you know there's got to be plenty of action right? I've always been a big fan of vampire movies on Netflix and this one has always been entertaining. It's a pretty free flowing script but I would never expect a vampire movie to actually have a whole lot of substance besides lots of blood, guts, and biting. A man simply known as "Mister" helps young Martin navigate through all the blood and mayhem. Mister kind of comes off as the vampire slayer although I have no idea how he has so much knowledge about them. All and all it's a cool zombie like vampire movie on Netflix and there aren't many good ones left. Right now it might even be one of the best zombie movies on Netflix. If you're one for gore and creatures of the night, Stake Land is a great choice for the movie tonight.
So I've been slowly working my way through all the best movies on Netflix by genre. Unfortunately, the reality is, a lot of movies dissapear from streaming Netflix, so you need to watch these quick. Like I mentioned before, there aren't many good action movies on Netflix and we got lucky with these.
Hopefully, the end of 2017 will bring us some more gems.
Enjoy!
