Insight to My Reviews
So lately I’ve had some feedback from users asking me to make my reviews a little more descriptive. Some people have also mentioned that I’m not “convincing” them enough to try out the movie, or that my reviews aren’t all that enticing for picking a particular movie.
I guess I can understand why people might feel that way, but let me explain why I chose a light-hearted approach to reviews.
I don’t consider myself to be much of a writer.
I really don’t consider myself to be that interesting of a writer. Writing is much harder than I thought, and to be honest, I think my skills are sub-par. I’d like to think that I can get my point across through words, but sometimes I struggle with a simple review that should probably take me 5 minutes instead of 20.
I’m not the worst writer in the world, but I’m not the greatest either. I guess my reviews are the extent of my descriptive abilities. So if you don’t like them, sorry I’m not better, lol.
I don’t like to read longwinded reviews that end up being more descriptive of the writer’s personality than sticking to the actual movie.
I feel like there are so many critics out there that start off with a review and then spiral into an introspective view of themselves. When you start to read reviews that contain sentences like “pervasively uneven” or “ pretentiously unbounded” I can’t help but think of this person’s delicate sensibilities that come oozing to the surface. Don’t make me read through your “scathing” review in hopes of understanding the “underbelly” of “existential existence” through a “film medium”. Just tell me, was it good? No? Great. Thanks for not wasting my time.
So I hope that explains a little bit of where I’m coming from. I really do hope my short blurbs are somewhat entertaining for people that enjoy the movies on my list. I honestly just don’t want to take up too much of your time, or mine.
