Best Drama Movies on Netflix
The best drama movies on Netflix can be hard to find. There's always movies that claim to be drama's that turn out to be a completely sappy waste of time. These movies below are some of the best streaming Netflix movies in the drama category.
These Final Hours
These Final Hours is a diamond in the rough. It has everything you need for a fun, original, and action-packed drama. You start to wonder where exactly all the drama is going to be with all the chaos going on but it definitely comes with time. You start to see relationships that are strained by the incoming threat (understandably) and how everyone is dealing with it in a different way. It kind of makes you think of what you would do if you felt like you didn't have much time on earth left. At first I thought I knew exactly what I would do, but I'm starting to think I'd have conflicting thoughts once I was actually in the situation. Although I don't think I'd do anything quite the way that James does!
The Last Cab To Darwin
The Last Cab To Darwin is a hilarious story of a very scary diagnosis. This should always be on a Netflix best of list in my opinion. Without giving any of the story away, The Last Cab to Darwin is a story about a terminally ill man traveling across Australia to seek a treatment he decides he wants for himself. It's a sentimental road trip with characters at every turn. I can't imagine you won't be able to relate to at least one of them. My favorite is Tilly. Like most Australian movies the cinematography is amazing and there's plenty of road soda's to enjoy it to. All the laughs might just bring tears to your eyes but the sadness might come with it.
Hector
I don't know why no one has seen Hector yet. It seems like nobody gives it a shot. My movies list on Netflix has benefitted greatly from this one. It's a very heartwarming drama about homelessness and the bonds that people form trying to get out of the trap of life on the street. One thing I will say though is the accents are pretty hard to decipher. Besides the tiny language barrier, there's a lot to love about Hector. Peter Mullan plays an excellent role and the inclusion of the affects of homelessness on a persons family was a particularly nice touch. Even though it's technically about homelessness, it does have a lot of adventure with the main character traveling from Scotland to London. Give it a try, there's a whole lot of human compassion that I think we could all use a bit more of.
We Need to Talk about Kevin
First of all, we need to talk about how disturbing We Need to Talk about Kevin is. This one will send chills up your spine. This was one of the first on my Netflix list of movies. I suppose people might think this is a nature versus nurture argument, but not me. I know evil when I see it. I really don't think I've ever seen Tilda Swinton in a bad acting role and she deserves some kind of award for this one. I think everyone can relate to being a little nervous as a first time parent but the story is so much deeper than that. We Need to Talk about Kevin is another one on my Netflix list that I found through reviews of how "disturbing" people said it was. I'm not even sure which child is the creepiest. Some of the best Netflix movies are also the hardest to watch.
Heaven Knows What
Welcome to the lowest depths of society. Heaven Knows What is pretty much just rock bottom. I don't know what it's like to live such a horrible existence but I do know that drugs are very very bad. Get prepared to live the life of a drug addict through this movie though. You have to follow a young heroin addict around the streets of New York before you really start to see that this isn't anything that you would want to call a "life". It's frightening real and they absolutely must have found some real drug addicts to mix in with the actors. It's just too good to be all acted. But hey, if you want drama, look no further. I particularly enjoyed the depiction of how the main character really just bounced around from person to person without being able to maintain any serious relationship with anyone. Drugs can definitely do that to a person.
The Impostor
As I've mentioned before, and will continue to mention whenever I see the title The Impostor, I will never fully understand how this movie came to light. It's just so shocking that this story could actually be real. I mean I get it, there really is such things as stranger than fiction stories, but common. The Impostor is such a strange mix of hope and stupidity. This movie is as fascinating as it is scary. What I did particularly like was the way that this documentary was created. They did a very solid job of mixing in real life footage and re-enactments to keep you entertained. I guarantee that you will find yourself wondering how this could possibly be happening. That's all I'm going to say.
Wildlike
Wildlike was a great movie to just sit back and relax to. It had a great message about some horrible things that go on in the world, but it didn't do it in an uncomfortable way for the viewer. The landscapes of Alaska are seriously beautiful and it actually inspired me to take a trip there someday. One thing I will say is that I will never go camping in the middle of Alaska by myself! It's definitely a coming of age drama and it has a lot of great characters that pop up throughout the adventure. A great Sunday movie to just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
Lion
Lion was one of the best dramas I saw in 2016. I don't currently have any children but I have plenty of nieces and nephews that remind me everyday what it's like to be a child. If you have children or any nieces and nephews this movie will crush you at times. There are so many scenes of how awful life can be for the children of India. I actually put off watching Lion just because I really didn't think it was going to be much at all. I had seen a few movies about India, but I didn't think this one was going to stand out at all. A few minutes in and it had me. Every character is on point in Lion and it almost seems like it's one of those situations where you can't tell if the kids are acting or if they've actually lived the life already. There was talk of an Oscar and I think you'll understand why. Lion easily made the list of best movies on Netflix.
A Netflix list of movies should always have some good drama's to pick from. These are some of the best movies on Netflix that happen to also be in the drama category. You can't go wrong with any of them and they all bring something new and original to the table.
