4 Netflix Movies That Will Give You Nightmares
Horror movies really are a dime a dozen. Some directors exchange cheap scares for quality plots. Others just turn up the gore in the hopes of finding a squeamish viewer to entertain. But every so often a few movies come along that really get under your skin. I’m not saying you won’t ever sleep again, but one of these might just have you looking over your shoulder before you click off the lights tonight. If you've already seen these 4 below, you can find a few more Netflix streaming horrors that might just give you the chills, here.
Babadook
The power of this movie is in not knowing what evil is lurking within. I can’t remember where this saying comes from, so I have decided to eloquently quote Batman Begins, in the scene where Falcone is talking to Bruce Wayne about being the “Prince of Gotham”. And the quote goes: “You always fear, what you don’t understand.” That’s what the Babadook can do to you. It makes you wonder what this evil could be. And not knowing gives you the eerie feeling that the evil of the world can exist without you being able to understand, control, or stop it.
Baskin
Baskin starts off with a seemingly interesting plot that quickly slips into a nightmarish mind bender. There's just something about horror movies involving dreams and nightmares that we can all relate to. What separates us from the characters is movies, is that we usually get to wake up. Also, what’s captivating about this movie is the grotesqueness and dream sequences that keep you wondering just what hell you are watching. I really think this one stands in a category all it’s own in the horror space. I say that because it’s rare to find a movie that has decent acting in a gore filled, not to mention sexually pervasive, flick. There’s something to be said about a movie that draws you in to the point where you find yourself unable to look away.
Event Horizon
I remember seeing Event Horizon in the movie theatre and it scared the crap out of me. It really does seem to come out of nowhere. Sci-Fi flicks usually always start with you having a foundational premise of not believing that it could be a reality. I mean, it’s the very distant future in this case right? But when you mix in something that everyone on the planet ultimately agrees is the worst fate possible, it gives you a feeling of terror that’s hard to shake. This one has always stuck with me and originally set the bar for flat out twisted, disturbing horror.
It Follows
After a sexual encounter, a girl is stalked by a nightmarish spirit. It's really hard to actually scare an audience these days, but I have a feeling there's gonna be a scene or two that might get you! In my opinion, it has a perfect concept of psychological horror and the impending threat is undoubtedly a little nerve racking. There's something about a never-ending, never-sleeping threat that sends chills up your spine.
There aren't many horror movies that will give you nightmares, but if you check these out you might be in for a rough nights sleep.
