Good Movies on Netflix 2015
I have to say, 2015 was a pretty good year to find good movies on Netflix. Sometimes, it literally takes me a month to find a good movie, but 2015 cut that time down to just about a week or two per movie. Although a few of the best movies have come and gone off Netflix, here are a few of my favorites that are still available to stream today.
The Clan
Man, talk about ruthless kidnappings. It took about twenty minutes into this one to know I was going to add it to my Netflix movies list. The Clan is the true story of the Puccio family kidnapping the wealthy for ransom in Argentina. It's always hard to understand how families can function as a seemingly normal, loving family, while destroying the lives of others. The father was a particularly interesting character and it won't take long for you to find out who is truly the puppet master of the family.
The Ones Below
You know, no matter where I've lived, I feel like there's always been that one neighbor that weirds you out. You can't quite put your finger on it, but you know something just isn't quite right with them. Since I'm sure you know the feeling, you'll feel right at home with The Ones Below. The Ones Below starts off with an optimistic couple planning on starting a family. They have their issues just like every other couple, but something sinister lurks beneath it all. I don't want to give anything away, but The Ones Below has some very interesting characters that just might give you that cringeworthy feeling of awkwardness. Give it a shot... or a couple glasses of wine and enjoy!
Welcome to Leith
Now this is a true life horror story. Welcome to Leith is a documentary following the attempted takeover of the small North Dakota town of Leith by well known white supremacist, Craig Cobb. Besides the obvious fact of how insanely stupid and ignorant white supremacist are, Craig Cobb comes off as a type of evil I haven't seen before. The man is clearly disturbed, obnoxious, and with sickening views of the world. However, it is worth watching just to see the battle the townsfolk put up against him. Everything turns into a macabre legal battle that weakly attempts to teeter on civil rights law, but feels more like a simple battle of right and wrong; good and evil. If we're talking about good movies on Netflix, this one can't be ignored.
Suburra
The foot is on the gas the entire time in Suburra. This crime thriller really shows off the culture of the new-age flashy gangsters versus the classic Italian crime lords. Of course, none of this would be complete without the interweaving of corrupt politicians. Suburra has a whole lot of style and doesn't mind being brutally violent. That should be enough to know that this is a one of the good Netflix movies of 2015. I haven't seen a movie with this much tension in awhile. You just get the feeling that everyone's about to eat each other alive. It has an pretty interesting soundtrack to boot.
Beasts of No Nation
Beasts of No Nation is another tragic look of the horror of civil war in Africa. There's more than a few scenes that are just downright hard to sit through. It's crazy to me that kids so young these days can be such good actors. The boy in the story can't be more than 10 years old, but he carries himself as a seasoned actor and it definitely shows. There is more ugliness in this movie than you probably want to see, but in the end you will be glad you sat through it. As far as good movies go on Netflix, I'm sure you will agree that's it's pretty remarkable. Actually, as far as movies about conflicts in Africa go, this might just be the best movie on Netflix in the genre.
The Great Alone
The Great Alone is an touching film about the life of champion dog sled racer Lance Mackey. I would say it's one of the most uplifting movies on my Netflix movies list. I say that because, admittedly, my Netflix list can be lacking in that area at times. Anyway, it's always fun seeing a life that you've never experienced. I don't know about you, but I had no idea what life was like growing up in the Alaskan wilderness. Lance Mackey takes you through that life, each and every step of the way. It's a kind-hearted movie perfect for animal lovers. You can see the bond Mackey has with his dogs, and it's nothing short of love. You get to witness his emotional journey from childhood into adulthood and what made him the champion he is today.
Cartel Land
I really can't imagine what life would be like having to deal with the Mexican cartels terrorizing your neighborhood. Cartel Land is a stark look at the nightmare citizens of Mexico are going through. It really brings it home to see hard working citizens having to arm themselves just for their own protection. Sometimes people look at cartels and think that their wars are only against each other, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. Cartel Land has won multiple Sundance awards for its ground-breaking view of all the effects of the drug trade in Mexico. It's at the top of any list of Netflix drug movies.
So there you have it. Here is a list of some of the best movies on Netflix for the year 2015. Be sure to spend some time on these; you won't be disappointed. Coming up next will be the best movies on Netflix 2016, so stayed tuned.
