Good Movies on Netflix 2016

I'm sure we can all agree that there was some parts of the year that weren't so great, but 2016 was a good year for movies on Netflix. I really added some quality movies to my Netflix movies list in 2016, and below are the cream of the crop. All of my movies are streaming on Netflix so you can just pick one and press play. Hope I inspire you to check out at least one of them below!

Betting on Zero

Betting on Zero is more than just a fascinating look at shorting a companies stock, it's a serious look at the effects large companies can have on the poorest people of the population. I admit that Betting on Zero has a propaganda type of edge, but it doesn't mean that the facts aren't true. I am much quicker to believe the side of the story that supports the facts than I am to believe simple words of support and compassion from a CEO making tens of millions of dollars. Whether you agree with Betting on Zero or not, both sides of the argument will definitely say it's a good movie on Netflix from 2016. Another part of Betting on Zero I particularly liked, was how open Bill Ackman is about a trade that he can't ultimately be 100% sure of. It's rare to see traders give you all their information in the middle of something so big, rather than before or after the fact.

I Am Not a Serial Killer

I can't understand for the life of me why I Am Not a Serial Killer got bad reviews when it first came out. I mean even today the reviews still aren't all that great. It has such a high level of originality that you just don't see with even the best Netflix movies today. I've talked about how much of a fan I am of Christopher Lloyd in the past but I didn't even know he was still doing movies. It feels like I haven't seen him in forever and he hasn't seemed to age much or lost any of his skills. I Am Not A Serial Killer is one of the dark, and fun, ones that truly keeps you guessing. And if you know anything about me, the movies that are quickest to make my Netflix movies list are the dark ones.

The Fury of a Patient Man

I get the feeling that if I didn't find The Fury of a Patient Man for you, you might not have ever found it. I don't mean to say I'm the expert at finding every movie (though I do spend a lot of time searching) it's just one of those movies that isn't really promoted much as one of the good movies on Netflix. Netflix seems to through movie after movie onto it's front page no matter if it's the worst or the best. Don't even get me started on the new rating system because that's like throwing a whole bucket of wrenches into the mix. I can't be sure, but maybe it's the subtitles that keep throwing people off from putting the time in for movies like this. I admit that sometimes when I'm dead tired (but really want to find a new movie to share with people) I'm not exactly excited about having to read subtitles. Although, that usually fades away after five to ten minutes. Plus, The Fury of a Patient Man has a way of exploding out of the blue to keep your attention. I think it's something about the foreign movies that is a little bit of a culture shock for us Americans. Even though some of the best Netflix movies are foreign, a lot of them come off as "strange" to us, no matter what the genre.

Divines

What sets Divines apart is the acting. The main and supporting role characters give you the impression that they've lived the lives of the characters they're portraying. That's not to say that I know for a fact that they did, but every once in awhile you find a movie that clearly has some authenticity to the storyline and there's rarely actors out there than can just pick it up and run with it. This one made my Netflix movies list for making me think, if only for a second, that these actors may have truly lived a part of the lives they portray. With that aside, the drugs, money, and violent surprises, are all great indicators of a good movie on Netflix.

The Ivory Game

The Ivory Game really needs no introduction from me. I've talked about it for some time now and it continues to impress me. I don't want to ruin anything for you but just recently a bill was passed in a certain country about this movie that I think you will be pleased to read about after you watch the movie. You really have to give it to wildlife activist. It's one thing to want to help your fellow man, and get praise from your fellow man in return. It's another thing to want to help your fellow animal, and receive no praise from them at all. I understand that activists do get praise from people for the amazing work they do, but to me it just seems like a different type of selflessness to do it from animals. Also, any activist, human or animal wise, that's willing to risk their life for a positive cause goes way beyond selflessness into an extremely high level of inspiration. The Ivory Game is definitely one of the best movies on Netflix from 2016 about wildlife activists.

Hush

Everyone knows Hush by now. It's probably one of the bigger titles on my Netflix movies list, but that doesn't mean you should shy away from it. I honestly am on a quest to bring you the best Netflix movies that you haven't heard of or already seen, but every once in awhile I just have to add a quality movie no matter if it's well known or not. Hush wasn't a massive box office success, but it's absolutely at the top of the list for the best Netflix movies in the horror genre from 2016. Horror movies these days always have a "cookie cutter" way about them. You've probably seen the same horror movie on Netflix about 50 different times because they all have the same storyline. But if you deviate from that storyline in even the slightest way, you set yourself up for a high degree of success, or failure. Hush just managed to do that right.

Like I mentioned in the beginning, there's always something we can find bad about a particular year. I have a feeling that 2016 is a year that a lot of people might have something bad to say about. But I have no desire to dwell on anything negative in the past. My only desire is to the dwell on the positive! So if you need a pick me up for some troublesome times in 2016, look no further than some of the best movies on Netflix from 2016.

Enjoy!
